Resources for Worship at Home During Lent/Holy Week

Ideas from across the Church for keeping Holy Week at Home:

Creating Sacred Spaces for Worship at Home:

  • Keep it simple and clutter free. Add symbols that are important to you – a cross, a stone, an icon, a candle, etc. If you have children, ask them to help create it with things that make them feel closer to God. As you are moved, share your space on social media at our Parish Facebook page.

  • Making an altar for home – from Sharon Ely Pearson

  • How to Set Up a Prayer Table – from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

  • Use painter’s tape or masking tape and Crayola washable window paint to turn your windows into stained glass

  • With children: make a Holy Week in a box that you can use throughout the week

Stations of the Cross ideas

Sunday: Palm Sunday

The Liturgy for Palm Sunday carries us into Holy Week. The service begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The mood shifts with the reading of the passion, and we begin the journey through the events that culminate in Jesus’ crucifixion and death.

Weekdays in Holy Week: Morning Prayer

  • Forward Movement offers an easy-to-use daily office (morning prayer, noonday prayer, evening prayer, or compline) at the Forward Movement Daily Prayer website. You can choose a variety of options to customize the prayers. There is also a daily podcast, A Morning at the Office, with various people leading the prayers and reading the scripture lessons for the day.

  • Edward+ will be leading Morning Prayer on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 9:00am on Facebook live.

The Triduum:

  • Join us as we celebrate the Triduum at home. Download and print our Triduum at Home Liturgy for use by you and your family and return to our website next week for Edward’s sermons that may be used in the appropriate part of the liturgies.
  • Please also consider joining the livestreamed worship services of the National Cathedral for Holy Week. The preaching is great, music is outstanding, and the services are the same services that we would normally be observing at Holy Trinity during this holy season. Let’s join our worship with the worship of Episcopalians the world over as we observe this uncommon time in our common life.
